Dehradun –Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand signed a mutual transport agreement at the residence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister at Lucknow on Monday. It was a historic agreement after the formation of the state of Uttarakhand in past 18 years. In the presence of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat and Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary Transport Aradhana Shukla and Uttarakhand Secretary Transport Shailesh Bagoli signed the agreement. Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Swatantra Dev Singh and Uttarakhand Transport Minister Yashpal Arya were present on the occasion.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the wait by both the states for the past 18 years has come to an end with the agreement. He said that people of both the states will get better transport facilities and all the disputes will be solved. He further said that state government of both the starts believe in finding solution. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that with the signing of transport agreement, the bus services between the two states will increase. He said that we all are part of the same common heritage so in the coming days the relations between the two states will be further strengthened.
As per the agreement, UP Transport Corporation buses will run 1.39 lakh kilometers on 216 routes in Uttarakhand daily. Similarly, Uttarakhand buses will run 2.52 lakh kilometers daily on 335 routes in Uttar Pradesh.
It has to be mentioned that presently, the operations of buses between the two states in each other’s territory is being done on temporary permit basis. After the expiry of the permit period, the buses of each other are stopped resulting in extreme inconvenience to the bus passengers. After the agreement, there will be no need of any permit to run the buses in each other’s territory. With this, the temporary permit system has come to an end.
